Privacy policy
Last updated:
This policy explains what personal information Bit Keeper Technology Ltd. (“Bit Keeper”, “we”) collects, why we collect it, and what you can do about it. It covers this website, www.bitkeeper.ca, and the apps we publish on Apple’s App Store.
Who we are
Bit Keeper Technology Ltd. is an Ontario company at 2115 South Service Rd W, Oakville ON L6L 5W2, Canada. We are responsible for the personal information described in this policy.
Our Privacy Officer is accountable for our compliance with this policy and with Canada’s Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA). You can reach the Privacy Officer at privacy@bitkeeper.ca or by mail at the address above.
This website
This website does not use cookies, analytics, advertising or tracking of any kind, and it has no forms or user accounts. Fonts and images are served from our own domain, so loading a page does not contact any other company.
Our hosting provider, Cloudflare, receives the technical details that every web request carries: your IP address, browser type, the page requested and the time. Cloudflare uses them to deliver the site and protect it from abuse. We can see aggregate traffic statistics, but we do not use this information to identify visitors.
If you follow the Google Maps link in our contact section, Google’s privacy policy applies to that visit.
When you contact us
If you email or phone us, we receive your name, your contact details and whatever you choose to tell us. We use this only to reply to you and, if you become a client, to carry out the work you ask for. We do not add you to a mailing list.
Our apps
Our apps do not contain third-party analytics, advertising or tracking software, and we do not track you across apps or websites owned by other companies.
Unless this policy describes an app’s data collection in its own section, that app does not collect personal information: what you create in it stays on your device and is not sent to us. Before we release an app that collects any data, we will add a section here that explains what it collects, how and why. That section will match the app’s privacy details on the App Store.
Apple gives developers limited information about their apps: download and sales totals, and crash reports and diagnostics from people who have chosen to share them with app developers in their device settings. This information does not include your name, email address or Apple Account, and we use it only to find and fix problems.
Purchases and subscriptions are processed by Apple. We never receive your payment details.
If an app lets you create an account, you will be able to delete the account and its data from within the app.
How we use information
We use personal information only for the purposes described in this policy: to run our website and apps and keep them secure, to answer you, to serve our clients, and to meet our legal and accounting obligations. We do not sell or rent personal information, and we do not use it for advertising.
Where information is stored
Our service providers may store and process personal information outside Canada, including in the United States. While it is there, it may be accessible to the courts and authorities of that country under its laws.
How long we keep it
We keep personal information only as long as we need it for the purpose we collected it for:
- Messages about enquiries that do not lead to work: up to two years after our last contact
- Client and billing records: six years after the end of the tax year they relate to, as the Canada Revenue Agency requires
- Website request data: kept by Cloudflare for a short period under its own policies; we do not keep copies
When we no longer need personal information, we delete it or make it anonymous.
Your rights
You can ask us to:
- tell you what personal information we hold about you and how we have used it
- correct information that is inaccurate or incomplete
- delete your information
- withdraw a consent you have given, for example to stop us contacting you
Send your request to privacy@bitkeeper.ca. We will answer within 30 days and may first ask you to confirm your identity. If the law requires us to keep some of the information, we will tell you what we are keeping and why.
If you are not satisfied with our answer, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada at www.priv.gc.ca.
Children
Our website and apps are not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
Security
We protect personal information with safeguards suited to its sensitivity, including encrypted connections, access controls on our accounts, and access limited to the people who need it.
Changes to this policy
We will post any change to this policy on this page and update the date at the top. If we want to use personal information for a new purpose, we will ask for your consent first.
